- Leave it to Motorola to come up with a bizarrely compelling new device that they can slip MotoBlur onto.

We’ve recently seen the Charm and Flipout with Android 2.1 and MotoBlur, and now the Defy is joining them. However, this is a touchscreen only device, and it has something else special: an IP67 water and dust resistance rating. That rating qualifies it as fully protected from dust, and immune to the effects of immersion between 15 cm and 1 m for up to 30 minutes.

Like the aforementioned Charm and Flipout, it also has the now-famous Gorilla Glass, making this one nicely durable package. The screen itself is 3.7 inches with the same FWVGA (854×480) resolution as the DROID line. The Defy will be launching with Eclair, which is likely due to the Motoblur skin. Perhaps it will see an update to Froyo in line with the launch of the newly announced Milestone 2. Other specs include:

    * TI OMAP3610 @ 800 MHz
    * Quadband GSM
    * 59 x 107 x 13.4mm / 2.3 x 4.2 x .53in
    * 118g / 4.2oz
    * 5 Megapixel AF Camera With Flash
    * Swype Keyboard

One thing to note – like the two other MotoBlur phones (running OMAP3410s), the OMAP3610 has no PowerVR GPU, which will have a detrimental effect on gaming performance.

There’s no indication yet as to the price or release date.
