The little icon in the upper left corner for voicemail message will not go away.  It's been there for a couple of days, I keep checking my voicemail, and I have none.  How can I make it go away?

Until someone pipes in - I searched the net and found...

  • I had this issue, was at the store switching over an old phone to my previous Droid so I asked about it. He tried everything but no luck clearing it so we master reset the phone and the voice mail box and the problem has not come back.
.
  • I called myself from another phone and left a message, then waited a few minutes until the phone had time to register a new message from Verizon. I called voice mail from the notification and then deleted the message I had left, and presto, the stuck voice mail notification was gone! Much easier than waiting in line at Verizon for a guy to tell me I just need to pull that battery (no, that does not work) or to reset the phone and have to redo all my customiztion. I just hope it doesn't happen again.
.
  • Yeah, it magically stopped one day. Not helpful I know-- but I never found a solution.
.
  • got it figured out: settings > call settings > clear voicemail notification
.
  • I can't remember exactly, but the problem was with verizon. My voicemail with them wasn't set up, so I had to turn off google voice, go through verizon's setup process, and then switch back.

Thanks for the response!

I did get a real voice mail message, and after I listened to it, the icon disappeared, finally.

I don't have this option on my phone (or else I'm not looking in the right place)
settings > call settings > clear voicemail notification

if you pull the taskbar (at least i think that's what it's called) down it will allow you to clear the list.  i wondered the same thing and then remembered that is what i did to delete notifications for apps downloaded from the market.

I found this worked after I made sure I had no unread messages and I left and deleted a long message:

Call your voicemail. You will hear the message "You have no new messages." If it says anything about you having SKIPPED messages, then you will want to delete those first. Anyway, you will hear "You have no new messages" upon checking your voicemail, then you will want to press option 4. Then you will press option 1 to turn off "Message Waiting Indicator" (don't hang up yet)... wait a few seconds and then press option 1 again to turn on "Message Waiting Indicator". You can hang up after this. This more or less confuses the phone and resets the messages.. your phone must have gotten stuck.

The steps above did not work until I did them one at a time leaving fifteen minutes and longer in between.

This is what worked for me.  Dial *73 from your Cell phone.  This will diable Google Voice Mail and return yu to Verizon voice mail.  Then from another phone, call your mobile and leave a message.  Hang up and call your cell again from another phone.  Listen to all messages and delete them as you do, including saved messages.  Go back to cell phone and dial *74 which will diactivate verizon voice mail and set you back to googel voice mail.  Worked perfectly!!!
